The difficulty of Everest Base Camp trekking is strenuous. You have to walk almost 7/8 hours a day in temperatures as low as -15 degrees Celsius. In addition, the Strenuous trips are much longer than the Moderate Plus treks. The strenuous trips are on average 13-20 days in length. Trekking in such cold climatic conditions and for such a long period of time requires you to have a good level of physical fitness. Besides, you will also need mental toughness to complete these trips.

Cardio exercises like running, cycling and jogging for about 4-5 days a week for a couple of months before the trip can be very helpful. Other core strengthening and muscle endurance training can also be done in addition. Examining how your body reacts to increasing altitude will increase your trip success rate. To avoid altitude sickness, you should stay hydrated.

As altitude sickness is a major risk while having Everest Base Camp Trek, you should not rush while trekking. You need to make your trek slow and steady to get to the Everest Base Camp without getting exhausted. On average, you can walk 6-7 hours a day. However, the higher you go the more difficult it becomes to walk. While returning, you can return to Lukla just in three days as walking downward is relatively easy and there is no risk of AMS.
