The walk takes you to visit the lovely villages of Marpha and Tukuche, famous for delicious apples of various species. These gem of a village located on Kali-Gandaki River valley facing stunning views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche and Nilgiri peaks.

Adventure Jomsom Muktinath trekking takes you through Jomsom to reach at interesting Kagbeni village. Situated at the end of Lower Mustang beyond Kagbeni lies Upper Mustang on the road to the Tibet border.

Enjoy a fascinating time exploring Kagbeni village of strong Tibetan influence and similar culture of Buddhism religion. From here journey heads towards the holy site at Muktinath, with climb past the windswept village of Jharkot to reach our final destination.

Muktinath, located on the higher side above Kali Gandaki River valley beneath the famous Thorang-La pass that forms a boundary between Mustang and Manang districts. Where popular Annapurna circuit route passes through Muktinath temple premises.

At Muktinath, besides superb views of Snow Mountains, a short climb takes you to visit inside the compound of Muktinath, where the main pagoda temple is located close to 108 water spouts.

Pilgrims, take bathe on this holy water before entering Muktinath temple, a serene spiritual surroundings for worship. For Hindu, it is one of the main Himalayan pilgrimage destination.

Jomsom Muktinath trek, provided with standard Itinerary days where some walks can be shorter or longer as per your physical fitness, some designated overnight stops can change, due to available rooms and other facilities, etc…….
 
We will follow the itinerary if it needs to be changed in case of weather, landslides, and difficulties on walks requiring more days where our leader and lead head guides decide holding full authority for Royal Nepal Group.
 

Climate and Weather:

 
Himalayan climate can be unpredictable sometimes even in good best seasons, where April and May to the first week of June will be the best time during spring times, when days are longer with enough sunlight hours.
 
Morning and night time as well in shade can be cold and much freezing temperatures around higher areas above 2,000 m.
 
Other months from September and October great times for treks around Lower Mustang and Kali-Gandaki Valley as well as other Himalayan destinations, most days are clear for views of mountains, although much colder months of autumn season with extreme cold during morning and night time, where sunlight is much shorter.

Itineraries

Day 1

Drive to Pokhara 820 m - 06 hours journey and transfer to the hotel

Morning starts with an exciting drive on the main country Highway, a busy and interesting journey heading past many towns and farm villages, with views of snow-capped peaks.

As road follows Trisuli River for sometimes, and then divert towards west to reach at beautiful Pokhara, a renowned tourist city blessed with the natural beauty of high Annapurna Himalaya, rolling green hills, and calm lakes.

Overnight in a nice hotel, located close to Phewa Lake where most hotels, shops situated a pleasant spot for walks around by the Lakeside.

Day 2

Fly to Jomsom 2, 720 m, and trek to Marpha 2, 660 m-02 hours

Morning from the hotel in Pokhara, transfer to the airport for a short, scenic flight to land at Jomsom. During less than 30 minutes of flight enjoy stunning views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range with majestic Machhapuchare Himal, the famous Fish-Tail peaks.

Slowly small aircraft land at Jomsom airport, and then short walk into Jomsom town, as well headquarter and administrative center of Mustang district.

Jomsom, the main hub of Kali-Gandaki valley villages populated with Thakali, the indigenous tribes of Lower Mustang and Kali-Gandaki River valley, settled on this windswept and scenic valley in past centuries, where flourishing trade use to take place in the early days, on this Trans Himalaya Salt and Caravan Trail of Nepal and Tibet.

From Jomsom, after a refreshing stop walk-on wide road to Marpha, a charming and gem of a village with white wash houses and neat paved street and alley, famous for delicious apples that grown on its orchard.

Overnight in one of its lovely guest-house and lodge close to apple orchard on the backyard, with time to explore the Thakali village adorned with Buddhist religious monuments.

Day 3

Trek to Kagbeni 2,800 m via Jomsom town - 05 hrs

Morning after breakfast enjoy a short walk to Jomsom town after a refreshing short rest walk continues heading due west.

As route leads you towards windswept Kali-Gandaki River valley with scenic views of snow-capped peaks against dry and arid brown rolling hills. Walk reach you at a small settlement of Ekle Bhatti, in early days stood only one guest house hence the name as lonely inn. At present with more than 3-4 lodge for travelers to stay overnights.

Ekle Bhatti, stands on a crossroad in between Muktinath, Jomsom, and Kagbeni route, from here short distance walk to Kagbeni on a gradual path above Kali-Gandaki River valley, Kagbeni village, an important village and entrance to Upper Mustang, as well to the Dolpo area and beyond to Tibet / China border. Where old Trans Himalaya Salt Trade route passes through, from ancient times till today.

An interesting and very impressive village, as it is mentioned in most guide books for people who cannot fulfill their dreams of visiting Tibet, Kagbeni will be the right choice and alternative.

Where travelers can feel the Tibetan environment of similar culture, after checking into your rooms in one of its many homely guesthouses and inns, with time to explore around Kagbeni, a village of great heritage and cultural interest.

Day 4

Trek to Muktinath 3, 800 m- 03 hrs

From Kagbeni enjoy grand views of Nilgiri peaks, with brown and grey colored canyon and windblown eroded high hills.

Morning walk of a few hours starts with a steep climb for an hour and then on gradual winding ups to reach at old and quite interesting village of Jharkot.

After, having rest and observing the surroundings scenery an hour steep up brings you to the Muktinath area in a place called Ranipauwa, a village where most lodges and shops are located close to the temple of Muktinath.

Enjoy grand views of Mt. Dhaulagiri world 7th highest with an array of snow peak range, with time for leisure walks around to witness more of local culture and custom.

Day 5

Full Day at Muktinath for local hike and visit

After days of continuous walk around Kali Gandaki River valley, a well-deserving rest day today on the highest spot of Jomsom Muktinath short trek.

Located close to the base of high Thorang-La Pass and its nearby peaks, where famous and popular Annapurna Circuit trek leads through from Manang to enter the Mustang area at Muktinath.

Morning enjoy tour Muktinath, where the main idol kept in a nice pagoda terra cotta temple which is dedicated to Hindu God Vishnu in the form of Lord Muktinath, a symbol of Salvation, Liberation, and Nirvana.

The temple with interesting 108 water spouts, believed as one of the main natural sources of Kali Gandaki River, where devotees and pilgrims take bath in chilly water before performing religious rites and worship.

At Muktinath enjoy its tranquil environment along with great views of high snow mountains, and visit other religious sites of great interest like Jal Devi temple and a monastery.

Witness, natural wonder of blue flames, ignited by a gas comes from a natural underground source, after a great visit of holy sites and surrounding enjoy afternoon at leisure marveling grand scenery and views of white peaks.

Day 6

Trek to Lupra village 2, 795 m - 04 hrs

Another easy and scenic morning walks, today our route diverts from Jharkot village for a day, to reach an isolated and hidden settlement of Lupra.

A traditional village with a monastery of Bon sect a pre-Buddhism, worship of ancestors and natural spirits. Which is quite similar to native North America Indians and Inwiks.

The Bon culture is slowly near to extinct, the earliest religion in Tibet, before Buddhism was introduced in the 6th Century by King Songsen Gumpo of Tibet who had two queens from Nepal and China.

Walk leads to a long descend to Jharkot, and then diverts east on less ventured area by only a few trekkers, after a short while reach at Lupra. Where houses are built with local natural sources of stones and pigmented soil from nearby windblown cliffs.

The village of perfect setting in the harmony of natural environment, overlooking close views of Nilgiri peaks with surrounding beautiful scenery, enjoy the afternoon exploring this old village full of farming and livestock.

Day 7

Trek to Jomsom-03 hours and transfer to hotel, guest-house, lodge

From Lupra village around Muktinath area, return journey to Jomsom following an easy downhill path to reach at Kali Gandaki Riverbank and the valley.

As walk follows the same path of the past few days to reach Jomsom town, for last final overnight stop, around the Mustang area.

Jomsom offer many nice quality lodges, guest house and restaurants after checking into your rooms, enjoy the afternoon with a tour of Thakali museum the native of Kali Gandaki valley of Lower Mustang area.

An interesting place to gather information from Thakali people, including the history of the area and Trans Himalaya Salt Trade Route trail of Nepal to Tibet, and flourishing trade that took place in the early days.

Day 8

Fly to Pokhara afternoon explore Pokhara city

Early morning after breakfast walk to Jomsom airport, and then board in a small aircraft Twin Otter, Dornier, or similar types. As plane lifts ups with exciting views of Kali Gandaki valley and high mountains that you see on both sides.

Soon and less than half an hour reaching at low and warm climate at Pokhara, from the airport transfer back to your hotel by the beautiful Phewa Lakeside, facing views of the Annapurna Himalaya range.

Pokhara, a lovely and scenic city to complete our great magnificent Jomsom Muktinath trekking for last overnight around the Annapurna Himalaya range.
