Gokyo lakes and Renjo-la Pass Trek

Renjo La Pass with Gokyo Lake Trek takes you to one of the high passes of the Everest region and lets you explore the pristine lakes of Gokyo. This trek will provide you with the opportunity to explore almost everything the Khumbu region has to offer you. During your Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Lake trekking adventure, you get the best view of snow-capped mountains, including Mt. Everest (8848m) and Mt. Lhotse (8516m) Mt, Makalu (8463m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201m), Nuptse (7855m), Mt. Pumori (7145m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6856m), Mt. Thamserku (6723m) and more, while also exploring the Gokyo Lakes system which contains 5 blue-green lakes surrounded by the Himalayas. Renjo La Pass and Gokyo Ri are two of the best vantage points of the Khumbu region. Both will reward you with extraordinary views of countless snow-capped peaks, moraine valleys, glaciers, and the majestic Gokyo Lakes. The view of sunrise from Gokyo Ri is unforgettable.

Unlike other Everest Base Camp trekking packages, Renjo La Pass with the Gokyo Lake trail is less crowded. Itineraries

First Day

Day 1:Arrival in Kathmandu

• Accommodation: 3-Star Hotel
• Altitude: 1345 m
You will arrive in Nepal and land at Tribhuvan International Airport. One of our Sublime Trail representatives will be there waiting for you with a Sublime Trail signboard with your name on it. You will then be taken to a hotel in Kathmandu where you will rest for a while, freshen up and spend the night. You can either go out for some fun activities or you can stay in your room.

Second Day

Day 2:Flight to Lukla and trek to Phakding

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 35 mins + 3-4 hours
• Altitude: 2610 m
• Domestic Flight
You will have a 35 minutes flight to Lukla, during which you can see an amazing aerial view of Kathmandu Valley initially and of the Mountains as you reach Lukla. Lukla is a town famous for its airport, also known as Tenzing Hillary Airport which stays at a height of 2860 meters. This place can feature some extreme weather shifts. Upon reaching the airport, you will head towards Phakding. You will descend towards Dudh Koshi river to reach the village of Ghat then Phakding and stay overnight.

Third Day

Day 3:Trek to Namche Bazar

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 6-7 hours
• Altitude: 3440 m
Today you will reach Namche but you will also enter the region of Sagarmatha National Park, so you will need permits. After reaching Monjo, you will have your lunch. Today you will walk 6-7 hours and it will mostly be a steep ascent. Namche is a village famous for being a trade center. People from the Khumbu region carry goods from here to their villages either carrying it themselves or making yaks carry it for them. Mountains you can see along the way are Kusum-Kanguru, Thamserku, Lhotse, Nuptse, etc

Fourth Day

Day 4:Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Altitude: 3440 m
After the altitude starts to increase from 3000 m, your body may start to show signs of altitude sickness. Since you spent yesterday’s night at Namche, you will spend yet another night here, giving your body some time to adjust with the increasing altitude and decreasing oxygen level. This is called acclimatization. You can have short hikes around the Khunde and Khumjung village, you can go to Everest View Hotel or headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park to see beautiful sunrise/sunset, explore the culture of people living in the region. You will return to Namche for your dinner and sleep.

Fifth Day

Day 5:Trek to Dole

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 7-8 hours
• Altitude: 4200 m
You will reach Dole today. You will follow Cho Oyu Mountain and Cholatse on the right. Along the way, you will see beautiful Pine forests, monasteries and small Sherpa settlements. The view of mountains like Everest, Ama Dablam and Lhotse etc. will make your trip exciting. You will rest at a teahouse in Dole.

Sixth Day

Day 6:Trek to Machhermo

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 5-6 hours
• Altitude: 4470 m
Dole to Machhermo is a simple trek which includes ascent for about 5 hours through gentle slopes. You will be in an elevation 300 meters higher than your previous station. You will walk through Oak and Pine forests to reach Machhermo. Some mountains you get to see during this trek are Taboche, Cholatse, Cho Oyu and Everest. You will have your dinner and stay at Machhermo.

Seventh Day

Day 7:Trek to Gokyo Village and lakes

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 4-5 hours
• Altitude: 4790 m
After ascending a steady uphill for 5 hours you will reach Gokyo village. Gokyo village lies on the foot on Gokyo Ri, alongside Gokyo third lake. Along the way, you will have crossed first Gokyo lake, few monasteries and moraines of Ngozumpa Glacier. After reaching Gokyo, you can explore the village and the lakes. You can get beautiful sceneries of mountains like Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. Today you will stay in Gokyo village.

Eighth Day

Day 8:Hike of Gokyo Ri, trek to Fifth Lake as part of the Acclimatization

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Altitude: 4790 m
Your second acclimatization will be in Gokyo village. You can have some small hikes around the village. You can go hike up to Gokyo Fifth lake or go to the top of Gokyo Ri(5260 m). From Gokyo Ri, you can get an amazing view of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. You can also stroll around the village exploring the culture of people living in the region.

Ninth Day

Day 9:Gokyo to Renjo La Pass (5435 m) Lumde

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 6-7 hours
• Altitude: 4368 m
Today is the day you will trek to one of the high passes of the Everest region. Your path will be a steep trail which then leads to a flat surface. After reaching the flat surface, you will climb a gentle uphill. Prayer flags you see on the distance are the markers of the Renjo La pass. Just Before reaching the pass, you will again climb a steep uphill. You can get the best views of mountains in that region like Makalu, Tengi Ragi Tau, the Rolwaling Range, and Gyachung Kang from the Renjo La Pass. You will descend towards Lungden stay and have dinner there.

Tenth Day

Day 10:Trek to Thame

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 5-6 hours
• Altitude: 3820 m
Leaving Lumde, you will trek towards Thame. It is where Tenzing Norgay spent his childhood. You will first ascend a narrow valley, then cross Marulung and descend the trail of Tangga. This village also has a big monastery named Thame Monastery. Lying on the foot of Kongde Peak, this village preserves an ancient Sherpa culture. You will trek for almost 6 hours and stay at a teahouse here.

Eleventh Day

Day 11:Thame to Namche Bazaar

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 5-6 hours
• Altitude: 3440 m
Walking through Rhododendron and Pine forest, you will return to Namche today. You will see Sherpa village and a valley along the way. You will get to Namche after few hours of moderate hiking which means no extreme ascending or descending. You will get to see the same scenery you saw when you first started your trek and walked through Namche. This will be the third day you will stay here.

Twelfth Day

Day 12:Trek to Lukla

• Accommodation: Teahouse
• Trek Hours: 7-8 hours
• Altitude: 2860 m
Returning the same way you came, you will head towards Lukla. First, you will reach Phakding and have your lunch and continue your trek. You will have completed your trek to Gokyo village, lakes and Renjo La pass.
When you first arrived in Lukla, you didn’t have much time to explore around the town. This is an excellent opportunity to explore this town. This is the last day you will spend in the Khumbu region, so close to Everest and other mountains.

Thirteenth Day

Day 13:Lukla to Kathmandu

• Accommodation: 3-Star Hotel
• Travel Hours: 35 minutes
• Altitude: 1345 m
• Domestic Flight
From Tenzing Hillary Airport, you will fly to Kathmandu. In this 35 minutes flight, you can get your last glimpse of the Himalayas and its beautiful villages. After reaching Kathmandu, you can go out for different activities, buy souvenirs or rest at your hotel. Sublime trails will organize a farewell dinner in a cultural restaurant where you can also watch local performers perform cultural dances.

Fourteenth Day

Day 14:Departure

• Altitude: 1345 m
Today you will fly back to your country. It is our pleasure to help you make your time in Nepal fun and worthy. You can contact us for more trekking adventures or any other activities you want to do in Nepal. Sublime Trails will always be there for you.

Yes, you can take a shower during the Everest Base Camp Trek. The tea houses you will be staying in will provide you with the facility. You can take a hot shower as well but you have to pay an extra price for that. The price gets expensive as the altitude increases.

On average, a porter can carry up to 30 kg. But you have to share the porter with another trekker, he will carry up to 15 kg luggage per person. If you have more than 15 kg, you can either carry the extra weight by yourself or pay an extra charge to hire the new porter.

Yes, you can use the internet most of the time during Everest Base Camp trek. The easiest way to access the internet is by using mobile data provided by Nepal Telecom and Ncell. It will be fast enough to make video calls, etc. However, the network might not be available in some remote places. You can also use Everest Trek internet access paying the extra charge.

Acclimatizing properly prevents you from altitude sickness. You should not rush to reach the destination, instead, you should walk slowly and steadily. Stay hydrated and avoid alcoholic beverages in high altitude regions. You should pay careful attention to signs of altitude sickness. In case of any symptoms, you should stop or descend too low altitude region, Take Diamox or equivalent medicine with you.
