In Nepal mainly payment in airlines, hotels, travel agencies and trekking agencies are made in foreign exchange. Major Banks and foreign exchange counters in different major cities of Nepal provide foreign currencies exchange services. Basically, daily English newspapers like Kathmandu Post, Himalayan Times and Rising Nepal published daily exchange rate of currencies. Remember to keep your foreign exchange encasement receipt while making foreign exchange transferring to Nepali currency that may need to change left over Nepali currency into hard currency before leaving Nepal. Nepali currency notes are found in denominations of Rupees 1000, 500, 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1. Coins are found in denominations of Rupees 5, 2 and 1. One rupee equals 100 paisa.
Credit cards are also widely use in Major cities nowadays. Credit cards like American Express, Master and Visa are widely accepted at major hotels, shops and restaurants. However, only 10 percent of the total amount may be converted by the banks. ATM card is widely used in major cities.
