Paldor Base Camp Trek

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhading Bensi, taking about 4 hours by local bus. As you leave the bustling city, you'll pass through picturesque countryside views of terraced fields, rivers, and traditional villages. After reaching Dhading Bensi, you switch to a Jeep that drives further into remote areas, eventually reaching Dondure Khola. The first night is spent camping by the riverside, surrounded by the serenity of nature.

Your first trekking day involves a relatively easy hike to Borang Village, situated at 1,500 meters. The trail meanders through dense forests and rural landscapes, offering glimpses of local life. Borang is a charming village inhabited by the Tamang ethnic community, and you'll get to experience their culture, food, and traditional way of life. The night is spent at a campsite in Borang, with magnificent views of nearby hills and valleys.

Today’s trek is a moderate one, with about 3 to 4 hours of walking to reach Tipling Village at 2,100 meters. The trail ascends gradually through forests and terraced farmlands, offering panoramic views of surrounding mountains. Tipling is another traditional Tamang village known for its colorful houses and Buddhist monasteries. You’ll camp here for the night, soaking in the peaceful ambiance of this remote settlement.

This is one of the most rewarding and challenging days of the trek. You will ascend to Pangsang Pass at 3,850 meters, a high viewpoint offering spectacular, 360-degree views of numerous mountain peaks. From the pass, you'll witness the grandeur of Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna Range, and peaks like Ganjala, Langshisha, Paldor, and more. After enjoying the views, the trail descends to Somdang at 3,320 meters, where you will set up camp for the night.

Today, you head towards the remote Paldor Base Camp, located at an altitude of 4,280 meters. The trail takes you through alpine meadows and rocky landscapes as you approach the base camp. The trek requires a bit more effort due to the elevation gain, but the stunning backdrop of mountains keeps your spirits high. Once at Paldor Base Camp, you’ll camp overnight at the base of Paldor Peak, surrounded by majestic peaks and glaciers.

Today is a rest day at Paldor Base Camp to acclimatize and prepare for the return journey. Take this time to explore the surrounding areas or simply relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Acclimatization is crucial as it helps your body adjust to the altitude, minimizing the risk of altitude sickness. Use this day to regain energy, take photographs, and appreciate the isolation of the mountains.

After resting at the base camp, you retrace your steps back to Somdang. The descent is easier but still takes around 7 hours. As you walk back through the trail, you get a different perspective of the landscapes and can appreciate the beauty you might have missed on the ascent. The night will be spent either at a teahouse or camping at Somdang.

The trek from Somdang to Gatlang takes about 5 to 6 hours. Gatlang is a beautiful traditional Tamang village situated on a hillside. It’s known for its terraced farms, stone houses, and cultural richness. The hospitality of the Tamang people, along with their vibrant traditions and customs, makes Gatlang a charming stop. You’ll stay overnight at a lodge, where you can enjoy a warm bed and local cuisine.

Today, you head towards Syabru Bensi, which is a major stop for many trekkers heading to the Langtang region. The walk takes about 5 to 6 hours, passing through lush forests and small settlements. Syabru Bensi sits on the banks of the Bhote Koshi River, and it serves as the gateway to the Langtang Valley. The night is spent at a lodge, where you can enjoy more comfortable accommodations after days of camping.

On the final day, you take a local bus from Syabru Bensi back to Kathmandu via Dhunche and Trisuli. The journey takes about 9 hours, passing through winding mountain roads, river valleys, and rural landscapes. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll have the chance to relax and reflect on your adventurous trek.
