Solukhumbhu: Thame Village Submerged Due to Sudden Flood
A sudden flood has submerged Thame village in Solukhumbu. The flood occurred around 2 PM on Friday, caused by water rushing down from above Thame, located in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5. It is suspected that a glacial lake in the Everest region has burst.
The flood has swept away a hotel in Jorsalle, according to the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality.
It has not yet been confirmed which glacial lake has burst. A police team from the Namche police station, led by Assistant Inspector Khemraj Khatri, has been deployed to the site.
Additionally, police from the Thame outpost have also been dispatched. However, it will take some time for the police to reach the site, according to Sub-Inspector Hem Bahadur Katwal, the in-charge of Lukla police station. The flood, caused by the bursting of the lake, has brought a surge of water into the Bhote Koshi river.
The flood is likely to cause significant damage to hydropower projects constructed in the lower regions of Solu. Further details of the damage are yet to be reported, according to the Solukhumbu police.
